Polk County (Iowa)
and Qwest Communications International Inc. say they have settled a
lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died of a heart attack after
paramedics were sent to the wrong address back in 2003.

-
Each will pay the
family $25,000, the family's attorney said.

Both the County and
Qwest had earlier argued they were not liable in the incident when EMS
units were dispatched to the wrong address.

According to court
records, the victim's wife called and gave her correct address.
However, the call taker entered the address shown on the E911 display,
which was incorrect, leading to an 8-minute response delay. The victim
later died at a hospital.
