I wanted to
take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your new representative
on Institute AdComm for the North Central
Region. As the "new kid on the block" in this position, I began
wondering why I'd never heard from the North Central rep before, and then
realized what a daunting task it is to represent an entire region of thirteen
states! I began to wonder how I might most efficiently do that,
and of course in this day and age technology seems to be the answer. I
hope that as the President of the Iowa Chapter, you might be willing to
forward my thoughts to your membership via your email list or online list
server - or even via word of mouth.
I am an
advocate of professionalism in the public-safety communications industry, and I
strongly believe that the APCO Institute has a great deal to offer our
membership. The recent AdComm meeting in
Kansas City made it clear to me that good things are in the future
for the Institute, and the current committee intends to be
very productive in upcoming months! As your liaison to the
Institute, I'd very much like to hear from members in our
region. I'd like to know how the APCO Institute can better
serve you: how it may have served you in the past, and what we on the
committee can recommend for development for the future. I myself run
an agency of 48 employees, and I realize that the cost of training is
an issue. We hope to help with that by developing more and better
web-based and online learning opportunities, which will cut the costs of travel,
and possibly overtime, associated with training. I know there's no
substitute for having the chance to get out and meet others in the field, and I
still encourage the continuing development of effective classroom
training. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on these and any other
issues on your mind.
