Iowa APCO Executive Council Meeting Minutes

June 6th, 2006 at 9:30 A.M. Bonanza Restaurant Ft. Dodge

In attendance: Cindy Forgy, Doug Slagle, Terry Nixon, Wendi Hess, Cara Sorrells, Judy Flores, Eric Nevins, Kirk Litynski and Bob Seivert.

In a previous meeting President Judy Flores requested a meeting of the executive committee members with the committee chairs. Judy had asked the chairs to bring a committee report, any goals, and a list of the members on their committee to todays meeting. Doug Slagle and Terry Nixon were in attendance, others sent written reports. Slagle reported that the 911 Council was working on the NENA standards issue and VOIP integration to mapping. The council meets bi-monthly and the next meeting is July 20th. Terry Nixon gave a report for LEATAC about the Homeland Security grant funds available and the Interoperability issue. Upcoming meetings are the 4th Wednesday in June and July in Ames.

Written reports were submitted by: Randy Thompson, Michele Bott, Joe McCarville, Mark Van Hooser, Julie Twedt, Gloria Isham, and Teresa Todd.

Teresa Todd’s Telecommunicator of the Year committee had several ideas for some other categories for the award ceremony (i.e. a lifetime or long time service award). Another good idea was having the previous year’s winner sit on the TOY committee the following year. Iowa APCO paying for the winner’s dues was discussed as you would have to be an APCO member to sit on the committee. Doug Slagle would investigate the cost of plaques for a lifetime/long service award and get the information back to the committee. The Iowa winners should be forwarded onto the National level as well for consideration.

Eric Nevins mentioned that there is also a presidential award that can be used to do something special or for a special situation.

Promotions were discussed with some good ideas for membership drives and raising funds for a membership drive through the sale of t-shirts for instance at conferences. Kirk Litynski thought possibly a vendor might sponsor a t-shirt for the advertisement and the t-shirts could be given away with a conference registration. Litynski would investigate further, and Doug Slagle would also look into the price of t-shirts and embroidery or screen printing on them. Slagle also mentioned an informational push like pamphlets that could be put out at booths at the state and county fair(s).

Upcoming dates – Tuesday October 3rd APCO & Wednesday 4th All Participants conference at the Army Post Road location as the other hotel was booked on dates.

Motion made to adjourn at 11:26 A.M. by Cindy Forgy, seconded by Wendi Hess.
