Iowa Chapter APCO Board

C/O President Judy Flores

Dear Madam President and members of the Iowa Chapter Executive Board,

As many already know, Jan Visser is retiring at the end of this year.

After many years of service with the State of Iowa in Field Services, now known as Technology Services, she will hang up her hat.

Along with her rewarding career with the state, Jan has also been a very good friend of the Iowa Chapter of APCO.  Joining the Iowa chapter in 1988, you could see Jan at all the meetings always willing to lend a helping hand in any way that she could-as long as she was not in the lime light.  She has always been a behind the scenes kind of person-or so she thought, but EVERYONE knew Jan.  That made that a difficult task, but she felt she did it well.

She has shown significant contributions to the chapter; Jan served on the executive board for several years, even served as Vice President for a short time.  While on the executive board, her knowledge was always welcome.  She was there helping set up programs, from getting the speakers or making recommendations, to playing taxi from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport when the program was over.  You could find her sitting in on the check-in process the day of the meeting.  She didn’t have to ask names-she knew everyone. She also helped with the newsletter.

Not only was she a part of the Iowa Chapter, you could often find Jan at many national conferences.  Most people who attend a national conference are able to attend and their agency pays their way.  Many times Jan paid her own way to attend.

There was a time where the Iowa Chapter gave life memberships to a deserving member.  I know of two such memberships within the Iowa Chapter at this time.  We would like to propose that Jan Visser be made a life member of the Iowa Chapter.  She may be moving from Iowa-but she can run but she can’t hide.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

David Murray/Keokuk Police Department
